Juliette Crane How to Paint an Owl 1

Whether you adore owls like I do or if you’re just looking to get creative and paint something new, this class is open to all skill levels and experiences.

It’s my passion to help you have fun getting creative and to add whimsy, color and more beauty into your everyday life.

I used to get stuck whenever I got to a blank canvas. Fear crept in and I either didn’t know where to start or froze whenever I got too attached to creating something pretty and stopped having fun. Then I realized the characters I paint and the layers I create follow a pattern.

In this course, I share this pattern with you step by step, starting with the drawing template I use to create my own owl characters, breaking them down into simple lines and shapes, so you can easily create your own! We’ll go through my painting process layer by layer with posts of videos, stories and photos on painting technique, staying inspired, and life as an artist.

I’ll also share with you all of the little tricks i’ve learned along the way-what supplies work best, how to make everything fit together, and ways to really make your character and background pop.

All of the lessons will be waiting for you when you first log-in to the private class website. From there you’ll be able to download each of the 14 lessons as a pdf too.

I design my courses with busy people in mind, so it’s easy for you to focus on what you’d really like to learn when you have the time.

The lessons are designed to make creating fun, easy and completely un-intimidating. I’m a big believer in taking the parts you love most and running with them so you enjoy getting creative. And, if you don’t have the time, there’s no need to go through everything all at once.

Feel free to share your artwork whenever you like. There’s a private discussion group, gallery and facebook group for students to connect, share, support and learn from each other. All in an encouraging and friendly environment that you can enjoy right from home.

You don’t need any painting experience or expensive art supplies to take these classes-all you really need are a few paints and brushes (your hands work just fine) and an openness to play. Once you register, you’ll receive an email with the class log-in details. If you don’t find the email in your inbox after 48 hours, please contact Brian at

Sorry, no refunds once you have paid for this course.

What Is the Difference Between HTPAO1 and HTPAO2?

HTPAO1 is based on the owls I initially began painting: so they’re based on very simple shapes and color combinations with an emphasis on creating a scene for your owl by adding symbols like trees or a moon. In this class we use spray paint and stencils and chalk pastels to create the faces.

HTPAO2 goes into more abstract techniques and we focus on more recent owls I’ve been painting with more layers and fingerpainting. I also talk through much of these videos, so while the techniques are more advanced, I walk you through each step to make it easy.

You can find video examples from each class here.

Will there be a pdf from the class?

yes. i will have downloadable pdfs of each lesson.

What If I’ve taken one of your other online courses…will I still learn something new?
