Every painting has an ugly stage.
It’s that part in the process where I feel like giving up.
Sometimes I’ll get to a point in my painting where I just want to paint over the entire thing. This especially happens when I’m pushing myself to try something new.
But I try to remember, it’s not about getting that one painting perfect.
If I let go, it might just lead me to trying something else or making a beautiful mistake.
It doesn’t mean I can’t paint or that I’ll never paint anything I love again.
Whenever I reach a creative block, it helps to return to whatever it is that makes me feel joy. This reignites my passion, so I can be brave and let go. I do whatever it takes to have fun so I can follow my intuition and paint with more freedom.
This new painting is all about finding that freedom and love in your own life – she’s called ‘Protector Of Love’ 12” x 16″ on stretched canvas. I hope she inspires you too!
There are a few more large paintings in the works that I’m excited to share with you soon.
If you’ve been wanting to paint together, but feel like you don’t have a lot of time, I’ve put together my self-paced, Happy Painting mini course, which has five instant-access projects. This online workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to feel more connected and creative.
In this video preview you’ll see how I create a portrait using just a few supplies in my sketchbook. This is a project you can do in just a few minutes, so you can still paint, even if you don’t have a lot of space or time.

“You’ve really inspired me in the VERY FUN CLASS of Happy Painting. I’ve gone from cut and paste to fearless, throwing paint on paper and actually painting and trusting in the process. I’ve been actually creating little beings.” -Nancy Rose
