When I’m struggling to be loose in my art, I get out new supplies and play.
This makes me stop and look around, so I’m not so focused on painting something perfect.
My entire process is all about play. But sometimes I still get super stuck.
The other day I was painting and I tried all of these different supplies and colors, and just couldn’t let go.
I needed to return to having fun, so I painted an owl (it’s called ‘Guardian of Hope and Light’ 11” x 14” on canvas – SOLD).
Painting owls totally takes the pressure off, so all I need to do is enjoy the process.
It all became a meditative process, playing and working with the soft colors and remembering there’s no right or wrong way.
Once I’d returned to having fun, I let go. From there my creativity was free.
So today I want to share with you one of my favorite ways to loosen up and let go in my art! This project always frees me up so I feel playful and can start painting again.
This project is one I come back to again and again to cover up my art and loosen up. It’s part of an owl painting project from my Whimsical Animals class.
In the video I talk you through my process, explaining my mistakes and frustrations, so you can create more work you love.
Sometimes I just get super stuck and don’t even want to paint. This is one of those projects that I come back to whenever I need a little creative boost to have fun.
