Lately I’ve felt a bit stuck and disappointed with my paintings. I’ve had to take steps away before I overwork my characters.
If I paint over something again and again, I know I’ve stopped having fun. I’m usually trying to make my paintings perfect.
Sometimes when I look at a finished painting and remember all of the layers underneath, I still forget that I was also painting many pieces at once and that each of those pieces went through their own ugly stages.
It always takes trying, again and again, to get to a place where I can finally let go and allow a painting to come together.
Whenever I take a step back to accept the imperfections and make a mess, then a whole new world opens up. It all reminds me to be a little kinder to myself and have more fun with my art.
This is one of the playful projects I always come back to whenever I want to loosen up.
I’ve been getting so many questions about how to loosen up in your art, so I’ve put together my online class Joy Of Painting to share lots of different techniques and projects (registration is open for a limited time).
With every in-depth project I also share a quick piece you can create with just a few supplies in under 10 minutes so you can always get started and play.
