My latest paintings represent freedom and femininity, so I’ve been inspired to keep my characters super loose with soft faces and wild color.
I’m having so much fun dripping acrylic inks and acrylic paints and mixing them with my other favorite supplies like spray paint, liquid watercolors, water-soluble pencil, paint pens and oil paintsticks to see what happens.
All of this mess making has brought out a new style in my art that I’m excited to explore more.
This new process of dripping and layering color reminds me to follow my instincts and slow down.
Then I start to play and remember there’s no right or wrong way. It’s so often the things I don’t plan in my paintings, that reveal the most beauty and make me feel joy, which inevitably gets translated into my art, especially my eyes and faces.
This is a project in my online art class ENCHANTED – SOULFUL EYES AND FACES. In this video preview, you’ll see how I use these playful techniques to cover up the white space and start eyes with just a few organic shapes, then add layers to define and soften my character’s face and features.
Happy painting!
