I almost covered up this painting.
When I “finished” it, I was left with such an uncomfortable feeling. I wanted to paint over this girl with thick, dark paint and start again.
But I stopped myself.
I set her aside. And when I saw her again, I fell in love.
Sometimes when I have a ton of fun creating a background, if the character comes out of the paint too fast, I think it must be too easy. So I figure I should add more or start again.
That’s the part in my creative process that I am trying now to work through… realizing that not everything needs to be full of layers to have depth or take a major struggle to bring into life.
With this piece, I loved playing with all of the neon inks and acrylics for the background.
Then it took just a little stabilo pencil sketching to find my girl.
I knew I wanted her to be one of my flower girls, since I had used circle patterns in the background. So it was easy to find her hair.
And, from there, she came to life.
I hope you have a wonderfully, creative weekend! Happy painting!
