I always seem to return to painting owls after I finish a series of other paintings. I’ve painted owls so many times, that the shapes and features happen naturally, allowing me to play more with new colors and techniques.
Painting this owl helped me move on to a new flower girl series inspired by blue skies.
I’m exploring a more literal flower girl and adding my very loose and abstracted interpretation of flowers in her hair.

This new flower girl was so fun to paint.
In college, an art teacher once said I used green like a primary hue. Since I always seem to cover up my greens these days, I wanted to return to a balance of “primary colors” without everything turning too rainbow.
I’m kind of loving her blue hair.
More to come!
If you’d like to follow along, I’ll be posting my journey over on my instagram.
Happy painting!
