Hello from my studio in Wisconsin!
It has been beautiful to see what everyone has been creating this first week of my online course – the Portrait Painting Masterclass – this session is sold out, but you can join the waitlist here.
I’m also in the process of finishing a few paintings for my next collection.
I had so much fun, and got all loosened up, ready to let go, but then I didn’t want to cover them up. I loved all of the abstract colors and organic patterns so much that I didn’t want to make a mistake.
Rather than push myself and be super rigid and tight, I listened to my instincts… I set those large canvases aside and started this smaller painting… she’s called ‘Rooted In Peace’ – 12″ x 12″ on stretched canvas.
I was inspired by summertime, and all of the butterflies and blue skies around my garden here in Wisconsin. She’s a bit wonky and instead of defining her beauty, I wanted her to spread her uniqueness and true joy. She’s meant to be a reminder to stay true to your own heart and follow your dreams.
Now that she’s finished, I’ve gone back to my large canvases and started adding more layers inspired by this vibrant blue color palette.
It reminded me that my favorite ways to get inspired and unstuck are:
- Painting something smaller, which helps calm my inner critic
- Dripping inks and acrylics, which helps me return to play
- Keeping my supplies simple, which helps me feel less overwhelmed
- Creating in my sketchbook, which helps me have more fun
Whenever I paint and get creative, I feel more calm and joy. For me, it’s all about having these easy ways to stay inspired as I paint, so I can let go and be loose without the pressure of everything having to be perfect.
I can’t wait to share more with you soon!
In the meantime, if you’ve been wanting to paint, but feel like you don’t have a lot of time, I’ve put together my self-paced, Happy Painting Mini Course, which has five instant-access projects (there’s a video sneak peek for you below). This online workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to feel more connected and creative.
In this video preview you’ll see how I create a portrait using just a few supplies in my sketchbook. This is a project you can do in just a few minutes, so you can still feel creative and free, even if you don’t have a lot of space or time.
Painting in my sketchbook always helps me to reset my day and feel more joy.
I generally paint with lots of color and supplies on canvas. But I noticed I started to drag my feet getting into the studio. So I got out my sketchbook, and started to play.
My creativity bloomed and I felt so much joy!
Now I love that I can do these small paintings anywhere in 5-10 minutes. I have a carryall packed with the few supplies (watercolors, oil pastels, a sketchbook, water-soluble pencil, a brush and a water bottle) and take it with me everywhere.
It’s so calming like a meditation. Whenever I need to get unstuck, I just grab my carryall and paint.

“You’ve really inspired me in the VERY FUN CLASS of Happy Painting. I’ve gone from cut and paste to fearless, throwing paint on paper and actually painting and trusting in the process. I’ve been actually creating little beings.” -Nancy Rose
I hope it all keeps you inspired… have a beautiful weekend ❤️
