Whenever I get stuck with my art, I start something new.
But the other day I got so impatient waiting for a painting to dry, I completely ruined it. I overworked the eyes trying to make them perfect. Then I smeared out the entire face and nothing good happened.
It wasn’t a beautiful mistake. It was a huge mess.
That’s why I always have five or six paintings going on at once. This keeps me unattached to the outcome, so my process stays free and playful.
When I mess up a face, I start on another and try again. When fear and doubt creep up (which they always do), I don’t stop painting or second guess my instincts. Instead, I return to what I love and play. Then my creativity is free.
That’s when the magic happens.

Happy painting!
