Lately, I could easily stop myself from painting.
All it takes is a frustrating start, especially when I’m trying something new. It can get overwhelming.
That’s when I go back to my bliss. I think about what it was I was having the most fun with last. Sometimes that’s drawing magical creatures with a stabilo pencil in my sketchbook or splattering inks and making a mess.
The last few weeks, I’ve been going back to painting owls.
But instead of completely painting owls the same as before, I’m adding a few new elements to keep me feeling like I’m moving forward.

For these owls, I worked on aqaubord and played with inks.
I also added layers of my favorite origami papers and tissue papers in cut out diamond shapes. This was completely new to me.
Using the diamond shapes, I created a mosaic in my background. This was very detailed work, which I don’t often do. So it helped me slow down and enjoy the process.

The important thing for me is to always stay excited to create, so I keep on creating.
It’s all about staying motivated and, for me, that means doing the thing I find most exciting and blissful in that moment. Whatever it is.
Happy painting!
Ps. If you’d like to paint a few owls, these pieces are similar to what we create in my How To Paint An Owl 2 online class.
