Whenever I’m stuck with a face, I look back at my progress photos.
I see what I’ve done before to make my face work.
Maybe it’s a spalsh of cobalt teal at the forehead that added softness and depth.
Or extra lashes that made the eyes look alive.
When I was stuck with this new painting it was becuase her face looked too perfect and defined.
Since her eyes were dark, I found another past painting with dark hair and used it as my inspiration.
I’d scribbled black, water-soluble pencil at her temples, then dripped water in HUGE puddles.
This gave her a more organic, loose look like she was soaring through the wind, so I decided to give her wispy wings.
For me, it’s all about having these easy ways to stay inspired as I paint, so I can let go and be loose without the pressure of everything having to be perfect.
These paintings are part of my latest collection – The Finding Peace Collection is all about using your greatest essence to spread hope, peace and be light. I hope they inspire you!
Thank you for all of your amazing support and kindness!
If you’ve been wanting to paint together, but feel like you don’t have a lot of time, I’ve put together my self-paced, Happy Painting mini course, which has five instant-access projects. This online workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to feel more connected and creative.
In this video preview you’ll see how I create a portrait using just a few supplies in my sketchbook. This is a project you can do in just a few minutes, so you can still paint, even if you don’t have a lot of space or time.

“You’ve really inspired me in the VERY FUN CLASS of Happy Painting. I’ve gone from cut and paste to fearless, throwing paint on paper and actually painting and trusting in the process. I’ve been actually creating little beings.” -Nancy Rose
