In case you don’t know me. I’m so happy to connect with you here…
My name is Juliette and I’m a painter and writer based in Wisconsin. However, I’m currently on an artist’s residency in Florida, soaking up inspiration for my latest collection and finishing up a non-fiction book proposal for a new writing project.
I went to college to study biology, but I couldn’t stay away from the art room. When I graduated, I went to work as an arts journalist, writing about the arts and music for newspapers and magazines.
It took many different jobs as a journalist, photographer, graphic designer, gallery assistant, floral designer, website developer and more before I finally realized the only thing I could put my heart into was being a full-time artist.
Some things you may not know:
- I finished writing a fiction novel last year that I’d love to see published
- I went to high school with my husband, but we didn’t date until we remet in Chicago, years later
- I currently read about a book a week, but I never read as a kid (I drew and painted instead)
- I love flowers, sunshine, sunsets, and gardens – nature is a huge inspiration for my paintings
- I’m allergic to cats and dogs, but am currently obsessed with finding a puppy that won’t make me sneeze
I’ve also been finishing some small studies that are now available for sale in my shop.
I’ve been finding so much peace and calming in painting this new collection.
When I started covering up the white space, I had so much fun splattering inks and high flow acrylics with lots of water. The rainbows in my first layers always inspire the direction of my paintings and I love it when they still show through in the finished piece.
For each piece, it felt like I was bringing their face and wings out of the paint. Now they can really spread and shine their rainbow magic.
This painting is called ‘Rainbow Water Spreading Peace’ 12″ x 12″ on cradled wood.
She’s inspired by warm weather and all of the rainbow sunsets I’ve been photographing on my evening walks. She’s definitely a symbol of new beginnings, transition and transformation.
This new painting is finished and called ‘Love and Magic,’ 11” x 14” on flat canvas.
She is maybe a fairy or a fairytale princess, inspired by a sense of majesty, power, strength, and connection. She’s a reminder to cover up, even get rid of, what you’re not liking, and clear space to keep going.
I covered up this painting so many times until I finally loved her face, posture and expression. I love that each layer added to her depth, beauty, and unique story, all of the color and imperfections reflect her heart.
As I painted her, I kept taking steps away. When I couldn’t find her posture or background, but loved her hair, I’d take a step away and come back to make one mark. Then step away, make another mark. Until finally I accepted I just did not like the colors. So I took a giant brush and swept magenta and cadmium yellow ink at the center. That’s how she got her cape, and definitely her magic.
I hope these new paintings inspire you to shine your light too!

Sending you so much love and gratitude!
Happy Painting!
