………
This was one of those paintings that took SO many layers.
I nearly painted over this piece so many times. And I almost completely covered it up once I called it finished.
This painting bothered me. It made me uncomfortable. It made me feel like I had so much more to express, and this lion just didn’t say what I needed to. But,10 I let it sit.
For weeks, I kept this lion in my studio. I stopped myself, again and again from painting over it. And now I am happy that I let him sit.
This lion started out as a lost owl, covered with red and intense colors.
Then, once I added my favorite blue and a bit of white (and fully committed to him being a lion), the painting fell into place.
I feel like the paintings I am most uncomfortable and unsettled with are the works that I really need to see.
And that is how this lion got his name.
This lion is all about moving ahead with strength and courage, knowing that in remembering where we have come from, we can better choose where we need to go and be open to serendipity along the way toward any and all NEW BEGINNINGS.
I’m also developing my next online course… PAINTING FOR THE HEART – A Mini Class!
I wanted to create a new class that would help you overcome perfectionism and more easily develop your own style in a mini course.
In this online workshop, I’ll share five new mixed media projects. We’ll paint on a variety of surfaces… canvas, paper and cardboard.
There will be some shorter projects to encourage you to take action and create every day along with longer projects to help you create in a way that is unique to YOU. And with each demo, I’ll stick to just a few of my favorite basic and inexpensive supplies, so the class doesn’t need to be a huge investment.
We’ll also play with painting backgrounds and layering, experiment with using the same supplies in new ways, and have fun bringing our paintings to life. It’s all about giving you many places to begin, so you can more easily develop your own style.
Registration opens next week (August 14). Class begins in September and there will be plenty of time to explore, connect and paint.
I’ll have more details for you closer to the date.
xo,
Ps. I am so encouraged and inspired by all of the artwork being created in my online classes and the incredible positive community!

I am so happy I came across your page. I have been looking for a mixed media class to take online and nothing has quite felt right until I saw your projects and finished pieces. I am excited to sign up and have something to keep me busy when the days are shorter and cooler!

I was first introduced to you on Lifebook this year.I loved the owl lesson so I signed up for the Happy Painting class and it changed everything! I had always felt that need for perfection the first time around and it led to so much frustration and thrown away pieces that weren’t just right. Seeing your process of letting the piece become what it wants to become instead of trying to force it into what you want it to be was an epiphany to me! Thank you for teaching us your style and letting us see the mistakes along the way.
