Whenever I need a little bliss, I paint in my sketchbook.
It helps me to let go and feel free.
The weather has been so beautiful here in Wisconsin (and still warm), so I’ve been able to get outside with my sketchbook and favorite art supplies — oil paintsticks, watercolors, pastels, pencil and pen.
I usually start with a loose layer of watercolors – scribbling and dripping.
Once the white space is filled, then I start to pencil in my character’s eyes and features, adding more and more details as I go.
I finish off with a layer of oil paintstick to either cut out my character from the background or add a little softness to the face.
