Whenever I’m struggling to be loose in my art, I have to take a step away.
I often look back at my past paintings and discover little things I love: a stripe of fluorescent pink oil paintstick beside a fingerprint of pyrrole red, a splash of pink ink in the corner, or a rainbow of water soluble oil pastels.
Then I repeat those elements in my next paintings.
If you’re looking to find your artistic voice, repeat more and more of the things you love in your own artwork, whether it’s a color combination, a technique or supply, or the way you’ve positioned the eyes or body shape.
Before you know it, you’ll be strengthening your voice and have a series of artwork that really shows your own unique style.
Oftentimes, just having those few anchor points that I can use whenever I get stuck, helps me to overcome creative blocks, so I can be brave, follow my own joy and let go.
I’m in the middle of a new portrait that I can’t wait to share with you!
I’d be honored to have you join me for this new class. It’s going to be so good and I can’t wait to see the gorgeous paintings you create!
With love + gratitude,
