Sometimes my paintings happen intuitively.
I might see an eye or a spot that looks like a nose in my first layers.
When that happens, I go with those instincts. But most of the time, I don’t see anything in the paint.
I draw a circle for the head and a loose rectangle for the body, then let those initial layers inspire the character’s shape – maybe adding a long neck, bear ears or arms.
The character always changes as I go, but these simple shapes give me a place to begin so I don’t feel stuck and frustrated.
In this video preview you’ll see how I begin to add softness and develop a character’s face. I use these same techniques whether I’m creating a whimsical animal or a more realistic portrait.
In Serendipity 2, you’ll learn to loosen up, overcome creative blocks and develop your own unique and recognizable style.
