Mistakes and ugly stages always happen while I’m painting.
But whenever I go back to my favorite art supplies and techniques, I feel the freedom to let go, play and make a beautiful mess.
Then a whole new world opens up and magic happens.
The other day when I got stuck with this new painting, I looked back at my past paintings for inspiration.
I’d dumped water over the face and her features smudged into a gray mess.
Sometimes I’ll wipe away the top layers and find a beautiful new beginning. But this time, I’d ruined my painting.
Because I’d already made a mess, I wasn’t so fearful about covering it up.
Oftentimes it takes getting stuck in that ugly stage to finally get enough courage to let go and play. Then I can loosen up and start something new.
This piece is called ‘Love and Good Luck’ 12” x 16” on stretched canvas – she’s a reminder to keep going. I hope she inspires you too!
I’m putting the finishing touches on a few more female portraits and can’t wait to share them with you! These paintings are all about using your greatest essence to spread hope, peace and be light.
I created Faces class to help you overcome creative blocks and develop your own style, especially when painting eyes and faces.
In this video preview you’ll see how I add layers to my eyes and faces, using some of my favorite mixed media supplies like tissue papers, acrylics, inks, oil paintsticks, paint pen and water-soluble pencil.
“I’m taking FACES to help me find more freedom and whimsy in my style. What I have also found as I take this class is inspiration-inspiration in finding ‘my voice’ with the art I create. The class group has been so fun! All the lovely comments and art from co-students has been a joy for me.” – Alison Pillette
