Original (SOLD). Prints available in my etsy shop.
I’ve been working on these new paintings of characters with long, see-through noses, peacock wings and high eyes. At first they began as the Snooters from my book, but now they’ve definitely evolved into something feeling a bit shamanistic.
I’m not sure just where they will evolve to next, or how many of these there might be, but i’m so enjoying the process. and their stories…
BE TRUE. (11×14 on Canvas Board)
Original (SOLD). Prints available in my etsy shop.
At first this woman started out needing the flowers to hold up her wings. She didn’t want to fly. She was scared and felt completely unworthy of the task.
But with a few more layers, weeks, lifetimes and eternities, she was able to move that flower over and hold herself up. No longer afraid to stand out, she stepped forward on her own with wings.
Becoming one who from a far away land flutters into everyone’s life, just when they need it most, to whisper…BE TRUE.
happy friday!

ps. if you’re interested in painting whimsical pieces of your own, we just finished week 1 of HOW TO PAINT A GIRL…so there’s still plenty of time to join in on all of the recipe sharing, creating, and inspiration!
She does look shamanic! It's interesting that as the maker, you know yourself that the nose is see-thru but to the viewer it has a different affect. I love the long colourful nose, it really adds something! Gorgeous work. 🙂 Jess xx
that's interesting to know that it's different to the viewer 🙂 it's really a fun new way to paint and to me gives the paintings such different story too 🙂 have a wonderful weekend!
i've been wanting to have more than one character in a piece…perhaps for the bigger paintings i'm working on today 🙂 love the idea of see-through beaks!

A few years ago, I wrote a novel about a magical world. I was one of 14 writers accepted into a 6 week writing workshop on the east coast. And when I finished my novel, I flew out to Washington DC to meet with my ideal literary agent. But then I got super scared and burned out. Because of that burn-out, I needed to heal... I used to be afraid to raise my hand in class. I’d learned that my ways of thinking and seeing were different from everyone else. When I shared an idea, I was often laughed at or told it was impossible. So I learned to stay quiet and be shy. When I was in the third grade we had an art project where we were supposed... Lately I’ve been going back to painting owls. For awhile I had been creating these very renaissance-style portraits with soft, realistic faces and incredible hair. I enjoyed that I could make them look very human, but still full of magic and color. While I still adore creating these flower girls, I found that these paintings were missing something. After countless attempts in the studio, many... Continue reading
Everyone always asks how I developed my artistic style. I have to say, style was nothing I intentionally developed. It was just the thing that happened when I painted every day. Most often I can look at a finished painting and see that it perfectly reflects who I am in that moment… all of the quirkiness and emotion I sometimes wish I could hide. But... Continue reading
Prints, Books and Originals Available in my shop. …… I’m most inspired by nature and the feelings, emotions and stories I see around me, every day. That’s why it’s so important for me to make sure I take time, each day, to find that inspiration. In the summertime it seems easier to be inspired. My inspirations can come from something as small as a walk... Continue reading

She's beautiful. I love all the layers and texture. Maybe you owls can have see-through beaks. Your girls need animal friends too.
