With each piece these days, once the white space is covered up, I love to get right to my character. That way, the character seems to define the rest of the painting.
And, I find, everything more easily falls into place.
The character doesn’t always come right away. But we have a bunny family living right outside our back door and it’s been so inspiring to watch the little ones play. So I’ve been painting a few bunnies.
With every painting I see myself somewhere in the character.
In that way, each piece is a reflection of myself while also a connection to the outer world. I love portraying that inner and outer balance.
Adding paper elements like this dream catcher pattern to both the bunny’s belly and the sky symbolizes that dichotomy while maintaining the painting’s simplicity.
Making this character the perfect TRUTH SEEKER, finding connection with and within every one.
ps. My next online course SERENDIPITY- A Year In Mixed Media begins September 16. We’ll be painting girls, owls, imaginary characters, animals and more with all new techniques and fun supplies
I really enjoy reading how things inspire you and in this piece I was totally drawn to the dream catcher sun – loving that! Have a great weekend Juliette.

A few years ago, I wrote a novel about a magical world. I was one of 14 writers accepted into a 6 week writing workshop on the east coast. And when I finished my novel, I flew out to Washington DC to meet with my ideal literary agent. But then I got super scared and burned out. Because of that burn-out, I needed to heal... I used to be afraid to raise my hand in class. I’d learned that my ways of thinking and seeing were different from everyone else. When I shared an idea, I was often laughed at or told it was impossible. So I learned to stay quiet and be shy. When I was in the third grade we had an art project where we were supposed... Lately I’ve been going back to painting owls. For awhile I had been creating these very renaissance-style portraits with soft, realistic faces and incredible hair. I enjoyed that I could make them look very human, but still full of magic and color. While I still adore creating these flower girls, I found that these paintings were missing something. After countless attempts in the studio, many... Continue reading
Everyone always asks how I developed my artistic style. I have to say, style was nothing I intentionally developed. It was just the thing that happened when I painted every day. Most often I can look at a finished painting and see that it perfectly reflects who I am in that moment… all of the quirkiness and emotion I sometimes wish I could hide. But... Continue reading
Prints, Books and Originals Available in my shop. …… I’m most inspired by nature and the feelings, emotions and stories I see around me, every day. That’s why it’s so important for me to make sure I take time, each day, to find that inspiration. In the summertime it seems easier to be inspired. My inspirations can come from something as small as a walk... Continue reading
