As I was finishing my latest collection, I had to forget about trying to make things perfect (especially faces) and go with the beautiful mistakes.
The other day when this happened, I was working on this new painting (the left image, she’s called ‘Miracles’).
I’d finally finished the face and then dropped a blob of fluorescent pink watercolor right on her nose.
Instead of wiping it away, I thought I might as well go with it. So I splattered more pink, then added yellow and some pearlescent ink drips too.
Before it dried, I slapped the surface and made one splotch spread out and splatter even more (it was so much fun!).
If I paint over something again and again, I know I’ve stopped having fun. I’m usually trying to make my painting perfect.
Mistakes always happen while I’m painting. But whenever I paint I feel the freedom to let go, play and make a beautiful mess.
That’s when the magic happens ❤️
In this video you’ll see how I use some of these ideas and techniques.
I love mixing inks together to get unusual colors that I then repeat throughout a painting collection. If you’re looking to paint more freely and make your paintings look more organic, don’t cover everything up in your painting. Instead, when you don’t like something, add a thin layer of oil paintstick on top to redefine your painting, but keep the underneath layers showing through.
These new paintings are part of my latest collection – The Finding Peace Collection which is all about using your greatest essence to spread hope, peace and be light. I hope they inspire you!
Thank you for all of your amazing support and kindness!
Happy Painting!
