………..
Painting outside is one of my favorite things.
It completely inspires me to create in new ways (as does painting with other artists). So when I headed to Lucky Star Art Camp in Texas Hill Country last week, it was definitely all about creative magic.
And I had the chance to try out SO many new art supplies and colors!
Here are a few of the backgrounds I created during my Painting From The Heart class…
Each piece became an experiment as I layered all sorts of art supplies… acrylics, inks, water-soluble oil pastels, lokta papers, tissue papers, book pages, vintage wallpapers (anything we had around to play with).
I had ordered some midnight blue sparkle spray paint that turned out to be more purple and unfortunately got completely unusable as the nozzle clogged (and wouldn’t stop spraying), but it all rekindled my love for using glitter, spray paint and stencils in my work.
What are some of your favorite art supplies and colors? I’m always looking for new things to try. I’ll be sure to look for your comments and supply suggestions at the end of this post.
You can find some of my favorite art supplies and colors HERE.
And, if you missed the retreat or would just like to paint together, you can find all of my online classes and watch a few videos right here.
Happy painting!
Ps. I carried all of my art supplies in this super cute tote bag (I have the 18×18″ tote with my She Stands Out owl on the outside). I just love it for carrying library books and groceries too!
You can find the tote bags and more art products like my canvas prints and iphone cases right HERE (and there’s lots of artwork to choose from too).

It was so great to see you again and paint in your class by the river at Lucky Star! Right now my favorite art supply are Gelatos, they are great for subtle shading and adding a pop of color. Hope we get the chance to paint together again soon.

always fun to paint and chat with you, donna! and i LOVE seeing your artwork in person! i’m adding those gelatos to my supplies to buy list… at least a brown and pink/red to try. i can see them being perfect for face shading!

Such an amazement you are Juliette!I love all your totes too! Looks like the class was so much inspiration! My favorite art supplies are all of em, hahha! I love the crayon D;’ache and some gesso and the black watercolor pencils though! I also love adding dimension to my work with wood icing and modelling pastes. I like to smear and carve I guess! Hugs,Sanna

thank you, sanna! i have not tried wood icing… sounds like fun! i tried a fabric paste at camp that was great for texture (much like the modeling paste) and am thinking i must pick some up to play more with. it’s al so fun to try 🙂

You are ADORABLE!!! Thanks for sharing your heart with us at Lucky Star Art Camp and teaching me just to play with the paints. I’m no longer intimidated of the blank canvas. 🙂 So thankful to know you!
