These last few weeks I’ve been on an artist residency, soaking up new inspirations and painting my heart out. All of these latest pieces are inspired by my love of nature, but also the heart-centered-ness I feel whenever I get out into nature – whether it’s to relax and read in the sunshine, to take photos of flowers or to enjoy a picnic and watch the sunset.
I’ve been especially inspired by the colors of sunsets and flowers. This color palette has really inspired the playful first layers of these paintings, which inevitably seems to inspire the rest of the painting too, especially once I add my whimsical characters.
Whenever I get stuck with my art, I go back to experimenting in the first layers. I always have 6 or 7 paintings that I’m working on at once, all at different stages, in-progress. As one dries, I’ll move on to the next. When I’m stuck on the eyes or face, I’ll add a few more layers to a background. Every layer adds to the painting’s story.
Here’s a look at some of my latest paintings…
Each painting goes through so many layers and changes. It’s so often a beautiful mistake that inspires the finished painting.
These paintings are inspired by a transition between the seasons, storytelling and new life. My hope is that in sharing these paintings you can capture a little of that strength, faith and comfort in your own home, everyday.
Each painting is shipped with love out of Madison, Wisconsin.
All of my originals are protected with a matte, archival finish. Signed, titled and dated on the back.
I hope they inspire you. Thank you for all of your love and support!
