To loosen up and not get so attached to my artwork, I’ve been painting on paper, book pages and cardboard.
Painting on cardboard is especially fun because the acrylic paints and water soluble oil pastels really seep in, especially with the cardboard that has the ridges.
I love tearing apart a box too. Then that becomes part of the energy behind the painting and process. The torn edges add so much to the piece and I always love painting on something that’s not completely square or perfect.
For this piece, I used all sorts of my favorite art supplies– acrylics, water soluble oil pastels, tissue papers, charcoal, inks and oil sticks.
This was one of those paintings that just sort of fell into place. And, I believe it was because I stopped thinking about what I should paint and just enjoyed the process.
Happy painting!

It’s gorgeous. The cardboard makes a really effective background with the ridges.
