This piece is very special to me.
I painted this owl over one of my very first whimsical paintings, which was a painting of a boy riding a train. Overhead I’d cut out the words Sweet Dreams in vintage wallpaper.
You can still see some of those letters in this owl.
For this owl, I cut out all sorts of diamond shapes from some of my favorite papers… origami papers and sheet music.
Adding papers on top of the original painting helped to cover up the texture that I didn’t want to remain in my new owl.
Then I added inks, oil paintsticks, acrylic paints and pencil on top to create and define my owl.
I love that you can still some of the original layers. It’s a reminder that your past always remains, but can be let go, so that it evolves into something new and better for right now.
Happy painting!
Ps. I created my How To Paint An Owl 1 & 2 online classes to share with you the happiness I feel whenever I paint an owl.

This is my favorite owl yet, Juliette! Will it be a desktop background?
