This was one of those paintings that reminded me to step out of my own way and let go.
I was painting on cardboard, which is something that helps me to really experiment with my artwork. Yet, I am so used to painting characters.
So when I saw this horse in my brushstrokes, I had to tell myself to go for it. Even though it was something outside of my style.
This painting is the December Bonus Project for my online class, SERENDIPITY- A Year In Mixed Media. And I was so happy that I recorded this piece as it bloomed so that I could then share all of my frustrations and discoveries, step by step.
Each time I grew frustrated, I returned to some of my favorite art supplies and colors– water soluble oil pastels, tissue papers, book pages, cobalt teal and yellow orange azo acrylic ink (by liquitex).
Getting back into my comfort zone with some of my favorite things, and painting on cardboard helped me push through the uneasiness I felt in painting something new to really let out my heart.
Happy painting!
