This is the April Bonus Project for my online workshop Serendipity – A Year In Mixed Media.
In class, I talk a lot about my inspirations for each painting, so students can get a feel for how I evolve and strengthen my own style.
And this is one of my favorite class projects because the inspirations led me in such an unexpected direction.
I love the work of Andrea D’Aquino. In particular, I was inspired by her use of cut-out shapes, so for this painting on cardboard I decided to try a few organic looking cut-outs of my own.
And from there this deer blossomed…
Those organic cut-out shapes led me to create antlers and super long legs (something I never would have done if I was thinking about it).
Painting this piece reminded me to let go and allow for beautiful mistakes to fall into place.
Happy painting!
