“Life isn’t as serious as the mind makes it out to be.” — Eckhart Tolle
………………………
Painting this owl reminded me to trust in the creative process, be bold and find joy in beautiful mistakes.
I had intended to paint a close up owl, but when I went ahead and created my background, I was in the mood to layer lots and lots of bleeding art tissue paper. And if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that sometimes the bleeding art tissue can lead to some major color splurges and blends, and not always just where I’d like. That’s part of the beauty of it.
But I painted this owl as one of the projects for HOW TO PAINT AN OWL 2, so I knew I had to take my own advice and just try something, knowing I could cover it up if I didn’t like it.

I fell in love with the ways the colors popped and merged when I added my top coat. And added a bit of acrylic paint, sharpie paint markers and ink on top of the tissue to make everything blend together.
And from there, this owl got its title and story…
With faith, this owl flies always connecting with a deep SENSE OF PURPOSE.

I used to be afraid to raise my hand in class. I’d learned that my ways of thinking and seeing were different from everyone else. When I shared an idea, I was often laughed at or told it was impossible. So I learned to stay quiet and be shy. When I was in the third grade we had an art project where we were supposed... Lately I’ve been going back to painting owls. For awhile I had been creating these very renaissance-style portraits with soft, realistic faces and incredible hair. I enjoyed that I could make them look very human, but still full of magic and color. While I still adore creating these flower girls, I found that these paintings were missing something. After countless attempts in the studio, many... Continue reading

I cannot wait to try out the bleeding art tissue, I have a stack of it for the class. I am off work Thurs & Fri and plan on immersing myself in HTPO2. I hope to achieve the depth you have in this painting – love it!

Gorgeous work! I'm using tissue to 'paint' with and enjoying the instant bright colours but then I get scared to ruin it. You've reminded me that really it doesn't matter, that mistakes can be painted over and over – thankyou!xx
