My husband and I took a little boat out on the lake the other day.
The sun was warm on the water. We brought books and snacks and just floated.
I’ve always loved being near water. It brings the same kind of quiet that painting does for me—a deep, nourishing calm.
Years ago, I lost my job. I was burned out, exhausted, unsure of what came next. But I kept hearing the softest nudge: go paint.
So I did. I took my art supplies out of the closet, sat in the backyard, and gave myself permission to play.
That was the beginning of everything.
Now, I paint every day—especially in my sketchbook. I carry it with me to the lake, into the garden, onto planes and retreats. It’s a companion and a grounding tool. A place where I can return to myself.
I thought you might enjoy a peek inside…
All of these paintings were made with watercolor, water-soluble pencils, and a few other mixed media supplies. What matters most, though, isn’t the tools. It’s the moment of pausing… and allowing.
If you feel called, pick up your sketchbook and join me. Paint just for yourself. Let it be easy. Let it be enough.
I’ve put together a few free resources you can explore here.
And if you’d ever like to go deeper, I sometimes teach this work in person and online. You’re always welcome.
With love,
Juliette
