I’ve been having some trouble with my shoulder (not to worry I have a phenomenal physical therapist ). But it became difficult when I was painting large portraits at an easel. So I decided to just lay the canvas on a flat surface. Usually as I paint a face, I take steps back so I can really get a good sense of emotion from the eyes in the painting. But I couldn’t get that same vantage point or feeling while painting flat, so I decided to just work with the color, form and movement.

This is a small study for some of those new larger abstract expressionist paintings. The title is inspired by some of the wandering I’ve been doing in nature, that feeling of freedom I get whenever I allow myself the space and time to just explore. I’ve been exploring natural and urban landscapes without trying to define them, just allowing them to move me, and listening, then coming back into the studio and interpreting my experience, attempting to turn it all into a feeling and bring it back out onto the canvas.

This is an original 12″ x 16″ mixed media painting on canvas by artist, Juliette Crane.

The sides are 2″ deep, so the painting continues over the edges and it is ready to hang with or without frame.

Each painting is created and shipped out of Madison, Wisconsin.

All of my originals are protected with a matte, archival finish. Signed, titled and dated on the back.
