The title of this painting is inspired by a trip I took to Africa in my early twenties. I visited the Kakum Canopy Walk, a series of rope-style bridges suspended high above the tropical jungle in Ghana. I was traveling alone and afraid of heights.
Someone had recommended it to me, and I had no idea what I was getting into. I held onto the ropes so tightly as I made my way across each bridge.
When I reached the last rope bridge, I let a group of children go ahead of me. For them, it was pure fun—they ran straight across, laughing as the bridge swayed back and forth. I was petrified. As I carefully made my way to the end, they began shaking the bridge, thinking it was a game. Then one girl noticed my expression. She told the others to stop, saying, “She’s scared.” With such calm and grounded kindness, they reached out for my hand and guided me the rest of the way. I will never forget the kindness in their eyes—the way they recognized my fear and, without hesitation, offered help and comfort.
In the upper left of this painting, you’ll notice a cross, an X, or what might look like a fork in the road, which represents the kindness in this memory. At first, I wanted to cover it up because it didn’t seem to flow with the rest of the painting. But I realized it symbolized something even deeper—a vibration of love and kindness, a symbol for the heart. Once I saw this meaning, I chose to make it stand out, adding a solid field of cobalt blue to the top and left, representing a feeling of blissful blue skies on a warm summer day.
I hope you feel that same energy of love and kindness when you look at this piece!

When I started this series of abstract paintings, I knew I wanted them to reflect something like looking at a prism or ice crystals on a sunny day. But I didn’t just want to capture those visuals—I wanted to convey the feeling of magic and light that comes with seeing them.
I use techniques that involve building up layers of acrylic paint and mixed media to create rich, intricate patterns that celebrate the beauty in imperfection. These transparent veils of luminous color come to life through movement and the creation of slow, intentional forms that represent the inner radiance of human life.
I’ve been working on two or three paintings at a time, side by side, mirroring movements and colors across each canvas. This approach results in subtle differences between the pieces, shaped by how I lift the canvas, let the paint flow, and allow the colors to merge.
Of course, there are always those unexpected moments when colors veer off in surprising directions. I never know exactly how a painting will look once it’s dried and I return to the studio. Paying attention to these slight variations and embracing the beauty in their imperfections has become an essential part of my creative process.
