This week I’ve been preparing for my Painting Retreat in Wisconsin.I can’t wait to meet everyone!
This event is sold out, but you can join the waitlist to learn about future retreats.
I’m so inspired by all of the beauty around my studio. Color and calm have always inspired me.
These last few months, I’ve been painting a new collection that’s all about seeking joy in the journey. It’s been such a fun painting process. I’ll share some pictures and reflections about it in my upcoming letter to you.
Whenever I’m working on a new collection, I always look back at my past work to find what I love most about my art—maybe it’s the way the neon pink liquid watercolor stands out on top of a magenta ink drip or the splatter of yellow ink across the body.
Then I repeat those elements in whatever I’m painting. Oftentimes, just having those few anchor points that I can use whenever I get stuck helps me to overcome creative blocks so I can be brave and let go.
If you are ever looking for creative inspiration, here are a few tips I follow…
🎨 Take An Artist Date: This idea comes from the amazing Julia Cameron. I find that scheduling a weekly solo adventure completely nurtures my inner artist. I’ll visit a museum, explore a new neighborhood, or attend a concert to inspire ideas.
🎨 *Limit Screen Time: This is such a big thing for me right now. I’ve set up an area for my phone and make it habit to tuck it away often throughout each day. I even cover it with my favorite scarf so that I’m reminded to use my phone mindfully (and not get sucked in).
🎨 *Embrace Playfulness: Allow yourself to create without the pressure of perfection. I love to engage in playful activities like sketching, gardening, or watercoloring to stimulate my imagination.
For those of you who share a passion for creative inspiration, I invite you to take a moment for yourself today ❤️ I also shared a fun owl painting tutorial in this blog post… you can wtach it here.
Happy painting!
