When I begin a painting, I don’t have a plan.
I generally create the background with 3-4 colorful layers (sometimes more).
Then I sketch a loose face and add more color. From there, the face completely changes as I add more layers ❤️
She changed from a woman to a cat to an owl then back to a woman again.
It’s all such an intuitive process. Anything I plan or try to paint from my head, just never works out.
The layers help me let go and find freedom.
You’ll see how I use some of these playful techniques to cover up my art in the Whimsical Animals class video below.
In this video sneak peek you’ll see how I cover up the white space with lots of layers, adding my favorite supplies, then find my character, using simple shapes.
If you’ve been wanting to take an art class, Whimsical Animals is a super fun place to start. You’ll learn to paint owls, rabbits, bears, lions and so much more.
It melts my heart to hear what past students have said about their experiences in Whimsical Animals…
“The best part is getting creative with my owls! Each one is so different from the other!” -Angelica Escalera
