Title: STAR WARRIOR. The original painting is sold, but you can find prints in my shop.
“Mystery is at the heart of creativity. That, and surprise.” -Julia Cameron
This is the March Project for my online course SERENDIPITY – A YEAR IN MIXED MEDIA.
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that most of my work, especially on canvas, has layers and layers underneath.
This painting, I have to say, is one that just have the most layers I’ve ever added.
I’m sure it probably just felt that way, but it took so much to uncover this STAR WARRIOR. And, I think, the painting would never have been the same without all of the covering and uncovering underneath.
All of those layers added so much to this painting. And I just love all of the wrinkles and beautiful mistakes that happened in between.
I know that whenever I try and make a painting into a certain thing, it doesn’t feel right. Sometimes, I feel like a sculptor. I see I am molding the paint and paper and just searching for what needs to come out of it all.
Often, I will put a piece like that aside. Maybe cover it up completely and then start again.
But with this painting, I knew it was all of the history that truly made it into the STAR WARRIOR that came out in the end.
Ps. Registration for my next online class BLISS – Mixed Media On Location begins next week on March 21.
See a sneak peek of some of the pieces we’ll be painting on my instagram here.
Pps. Beginning next week, I will be posting here only on Fridays each week. I am bubbling with creativity and need to make room for all of my ideas and creative projects… I cannot wait to share them with you soon!
A HUGE thank you to my husband Brian Knapp of HumanITy LLC for setting it all up!
Have a wonderful weekend! xo
