I can hardly imagine this painting as anything else. And I am delighted to have shared the before and after shots with you so you can see the results. I am all for changing the things you’re not happy with…and now I present to you IN BLOOM.

The original mixed media painting IN BLOOM has sold! Thanks so much for your continued support! Archival prints available in my Art Shop!

IN BLOOM 8 X 8 Inch Print of Mixed Media Painting
Two things were really bothering me about Phase 1 of this painting: I wasn’t happy with the green and I really hated her deer body. It felt like I had taken the easy way out and not pushed my imagination to its fullest. So I went back into the studio, painted a bunch of golden yellow and was so excited when her springtime dress turned out. And from there everything else just fell into place. I knew she had to have the brightest of orange-red hair to match that dress. Here I’ve played with acrylics, colored pencils, charcoal, ink, pastel, and origami paper to give her life and magic.

  1. I think that she is sooooo sweet! xx

  2. I always tell my workshop attendees, “there are no mistakes, only creative opportunities”. Glad you saw this as one too! Love your end result – she is so sweet!

  3. Wow, what a difference! I liked the other one when I saw it yesterday, but this one just pops!

  4. No kidding! I liked it before, but you are right…I can't imagine her any other way

  5. love her….she exudes magic!!!!!

  7. She came out wonderful! The other version was lovely too, but I love the bright, rich colors in this one. Nice work Juliette! 🙂 ~Lauren

  9. Wow! You made her just PERFECT!

  10. well, this is an incredible transformation and I really do love how you've made these changes. I did actually like the before stage too but I have to say I much prefer this one!

  11. oooooh this is a really great blog! That is a really cool pic!

  12. I think she is looking so sweet. Great work. Have a wonderful weekend.

  13. What an amazing difference between beginning and end. I'm so glad you shared, and I love the end result. She did indeed 'bloom' into her true self.

  14. You know… I think I like them both equally. There's a strange feeling the first one gives. This one is more similar to your others.

    Anyways, great job. 🙂

  15. What a great idea to share your creative process. I asked myself and I like the warm second attempt much more! Congrats for creating such an amazing artwork!

  16. well done! i like the outcome. she's definitely brighter than her counter part. i liked the other piece too though. i always enjoy seeing the progression of a painting 🙂 thanks for sharing!

  17. Hi Juliette, thanks for your lovely comments on my blog. I love this, it has really come alive with those golds and reds. Something I've come to understand about my painting is that every piece goes through an 'ugly duckling' stage, where you just hate it, it isn't working, you feel like it's the worst thing you've ever done, and you want to abandon it. And I've learnt that if I just keep going, it will get better!

  18. It reminds me of a fairytale I have read before. I love the finished result!

  19. she is adorable and love the dress!!

  20. Your work is truly of the imagination. I LOVE this painting! I am just smitten with her little nose. I enjoyed, too, seeing the transformation and hearing about your process. I love learning about process of other artists! Saying that you felt you needed to push your imagination to the fullest is something I'm going to think about today. I love it when I feel like I can see the artist's imagination in their work. I'd like to be able to do that better.

  21. Oh my goodness, this turned out wonderfully! I love the colors. 🙂

  22. Wow! You are very talented. All your work is just wonderful! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the very flattering comment! 🙂 I'm always happy to meet new blogging friends!
