A New Painting- Your Gifts Matter

“Genius is more often found in a cracked pot than in a whole one.” -E. B. White
………
This was one of those paintings that really came together through play.
I’d been working on quite a few paintings at once (more than usual). I felt like I had all of these stories inside to get out and each canvas told their own piece.
But it took following my instincts and quieting that nagging, negative voice for this rabbit prince to emerge.
I’d been having so much fun creating backgrounds with my new art supplies, that when it got to painting this character I immediately thought he looked ugly.
I thought, “That’s not what I usually paint. I better change it.”
And I had wanted to completely cover up this prince’s face. But instead I decided to add my two favorite things… more whimsy and color.
Your Gifts Matter. Original Painting (SOLD).
Prints available in my etsy shop.
And so I added a few of my favorite things… bunny ears, a rainbow and the bright primary blue hue.
To balance it all, the bunnies body needed something new. And so I uncovered a new technique I love.
I layered strips of bleeding art tissue paper and book pages over an otherwise dull part of my character. Once I added my mod podge, the body really popped, yet blended with the rest of the painting.
I love how in parts, beneath the tissue paper, the original background shows through and inspired this rabbit prince’s story…
Tell your story the way no one else can. Follow the rainbow… it will take you to the stars, over the moon and beyond because YOUR GIFTS MATTER.
